Short description of the organization (max 12 lines): The center was founded in 1993 as a part of CALMAP-PROJECT (Computer Aided Learning: Course Material Preparation) funded by the European Union. During the period of 1995-1998 the center participated in forming of International Network of Productive Schools (INEPS) (European project). In the 1998 Center founded The Computer Tools in Education Journal which become the main journal for research and development of e-learning in schools (mainly in mathematics, informatics and physics). The editorial board of the journal consist of most qualified persons in the field of information technologies in education from Russia and not only in Russia: for example Seymour Papert and Yuri Matiyasevich are the members of editorial board. During the period of 2003-2004 the project “Pedagogical aspects of computer technologies using for productive teaching in mathematics” was carried out with financial support of Russian Humanitarian Research Foundation. During the period of 2005-2007 the center participated in five project of Russian National Training Foundation for development of e-resources and e-instruments for supporting of studying mathematics in secondary schools.

Project Problem: The proposed research problem is connected with existing small interactivity of educational material and materials for science popularization. A new type of interfaces for interaction with internet resources is needed which would open way for students to held searching activity in subject area via using some extension of standard browsers.
Project Goal: Developing of computer tools to provide interface for interaction with opened data arrays (dictionaries, geographic maps and concerned data etc.). The developed interface would give possibility to use such arrays as source for experiments and conducting of search activity in subject studying and scientific researches.
Project Tasks:
  1. Developing of local versions of “Hypothesis Verifier” program for supporting students in their searching activity when they study various subject areas, such as:
    • mathematics,
    • physics,
    • chemistry,
    • geography,
    • history,
    • linguistics,
    • biology,
    • etc.
    as programs with open codes.
  2. Developing of plugins for inserting of “Hypothesis Verifier” module in most popular browsers to support educational dialog with students.
Key Projects Activities:
  1. Analysis of open arrays possibilities for organizing of educational searching activity.
  2. Analysis of forms for knowledge representation in various subjects which keep context of this data arrays.
  3. Developing of common interface for construction of inquiries on verification using the given data array and context of given area.
  4. To develop special applications for various subject areas (such as mathematics, physics, geography, linguistics etc.).
Expected results:
  1. Adaptation to contemporary conditions of methodological experience in teaching mathematics of Russia (USSR).
  2. Developing of new type module (“Hypothesis Verifier”) for distance learning systems.
  3. Special interface for supporting of open e-libraries by interactive materials for prolonged and individualized dialog between students and tasks.
  4. The tool kit for e-books authors will be developed to support constructing of interactive tasks collections.
  5. Developing of new tools for knowledge testing to change "multichoice" tests by tests with “open answer”.

Description of previous and present experience in International Cooperation 1993-1996: CALMAP-PROJECT (Computer Aided Learning: Course Material Preparation) funded by the European Union. The center (previous name: Vocational Renewal Centre «Information Technologies in Education» (ITE) was the part of the ECTT net of 15 centers in the Eastern Europe. The center developed an educational software for vocational renewal in the area of information technologies.
1995-1998: the center participated in forming of International Network of Productive Schools (INEPS) (European project). The center organized special seminar (02.2002) "Productive Learning - Productive Thinking - Using Computers" in Saint-Petersburg for more than 70 participants from 12 European countries.
Now center participate in InterGeo project as associated partner (Pozdnyakov, Samahova represent center in this project).
Previous participation in EU’s Framework Programme projects
